Light Therapy

Welcome to Brighter Day

Brighter Day is home to premium light therapy devises. We provide high-quality Light Therapy devices to Ireland. Our products are best-in-class and have been developed with the aid of research to treat a variety of problems that Irish consumers face. Light Therapy devices are becoming increasingly popular in Ireland and we have helped an enormous amount of people deal with a range of issues regarding their mood and general positivity.

The ideal solution to assist medical conditions including seasonal affective disorder (SAD), bipolar and anyone suffering from depression and other mood disorders. Jet lag, sleeping disorders and adjusting to different work schedules are among the other main reasons for light therapy.

Light therapy devices are extremely popular with students to brighten up their study environment. This is particularly useful in the stressful exam season when students are spending long amounts of time inside studying.

These light therapy devices are also widely used in the office environment. Especially if members of the workforce are used to sunnier environments. An increased amount of bright light in the winter months, or when you're indoors for an extended period, is proven to put you in a more positive mood and make you feel more awake.

Please note: Brighterday is an Irish company based in Dublin. All our SAD Lamps are dispatched from our Dublin warehouse, and therefore if you are an Irish or other EU county customer, the price you see is the price you pay with no additional duty or VAT costs.

Benefits of Light Therapy

  • Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)

SAD begins and ends at about the same times every year. Symptoms tend to start in the fall and continue into the winter months, sapping your energy and making you feel moody. Light therapy is said to affect the brain chemicals that are linked to your mood and sleep, which can alleviate symptoms of SAD. Although these are light therapy devices, they are also broadly known as SAD Lamps. This refers to the popular usage of these devices to treat seasonal affective disorder.

  • Light Therapy in Bipolar Disorder

Light Therapy can also be used for conditions that are not seasonal. It is an effective alternative to antidepressant medication. It is probably one of the safer antidepressant treatments for bipolar depression. Low “doses” can be safe for many people.

  • Promote Sleep

Light Therapy is also used to combat jet lag, sleeping disorders and help users adjust to nighttime schedules. Using light to stimulate the endocrine system and regulate our body’s processes can help to promote sleep, correct hormonal imbalances, combat depression and SAD.

What are Bright Light Therapy Devices?

Bright light therapy involves exposure to high-intensity light under specified conditions. The recommended light therapy system consists of a device known as a lightbox. This is a set of non-flicker fluorescent bulbs installed with a plastic or glass diffusing screen. Unfortunately, regular lights cannot be used for light therapy, as they are not strong enough. A minimum of 10,000 lux is required for effective light therapy, and the product must have a diffuser to eliminate any UV Rays. An average office is 500 lux, so a light therapy unit is 20 times brighter!

How does Light Therapy treatment work?

Treatment consists simply of sitting close to the light therapy device, with the light on and your eyes open. You don't have to look directly at the light and you can do anything you like (such as read, eat or work on a computer) so long as you stay within the recommended distance. The majority of people will start to feel benefits within a week of starting light therapy treatment.

Which device is right for me?

Choosing a suitable light therapy unit can be a daunting task, and it all depends on your circumstances. If you spend a lot of time at home and are lucky enough to have plenty of time on your hands then the light therapy device that we would suggest would be very different to someone that only has 20 mins in the morning to sit down and get treatment. Browse our range of products to see which product is the right one for you. If you require any assistance, give us a call on 01 5654619 to discuss the best option for you.

How long do I need to sit near the lightbox?

It's generally recommended to start at a gentle level of therapy, about 20 minutes in the morning (at 10,000 lux) for the first few days. After a few days, increase to 30 minutes. If this has the effect of lessening the symptoms of the winter blues then stick with it. If you are still feeling the symptoms then increase to 45 minutes. As a general rule, you should not need more than 90 minutes (3 x 30-minute sessions). If you wish, you can have longer sessions further away from the lamp.
